This is especially amazing since the most celebrated success stories of the past and present have been based on business model developments with unique, sustainable and coherent logic.

Why the intrinsic logic of the business model in question is decisive

A business model basically describes the methodology of how a company generates value (Value Creation) and in turn converts that value into profit (Value Capture). Value Creation expresses the benefit that a company provides to its customers. Value Capture articulates how much of this added benefit can be converted into profit by a company – or not. Every company has a business model, at least implicitly. The fact is, however, that some of these models work and some don’t.

  • provide meaningful added value for the customer and
  • possess an intrinsic logic for converting this added value into profit with above-average frequency.
