Why the coherence between company strategy and innovation logic is decisive and not innovative performance 

An analysis of successful companies shows that the key is to focus the company’s energy on the right innovations and then manage those innovations effectively. Not all companies ask themselves the question of which innovations and how many of them will actually lead them to their objectives. This requires, however, that

  • you develop a clear and collective image of your own INNOVATION LOGIC (innovation strategy, areas of innovation, innovation portfolio, etc.). This vision requires two things: on the one hand, an understanding of your own strategic role in the future competitive environment, and on the other hand the readiness to make the desired position in the market the focus of all your innovative efforts.
     
  • In addition, it requires a reassessment of how you understand innovation and how innovation is generated within the company. Innovation is more than just ideas. It is not just research and development. Innovation requires more than just technological development. It requires perspective and expertise. In addition to new products and services, innovation calls for background processes and business model development. Every dimension of a business’ logic – and ultimately the logic itself – represents fertile ground for new development.
     

Questions on the way to innovation excellence: 

  • Which innovations and how many of them are called for by the strategic role of my company?
  • Are we implementing the right – strategically relevant – innovations?
  • Does the innovation system of my company contribute enough to ensuring the uniqueness, coherence, and sustainability of my business model?
  • Is the company structured to support the current logic of innovation?
